MEDICAL EVACUATION INSURANCE
Given the remote location, lack of emergency resources, and substandard medical facilities in Kyrgyzstan, it is strongly recommended that all participants enroll in a personal medical evacuation policy that will cover the costs of both emergency medical care and transportation. The Kyrgyzstan Mountain Rescue Service (MRS) is the most reliable local rescue service and has the capacity to mobilize a heli rescue, but REQUIRES preregistration and medical evacuation insurance that guarantees at least 30,000 € in coverage. 40 Tribes will ensure that all participants with sufficient coverage are properly registered with the MRS ahead of your arrival.
TRAVEL INSURANCE
Due to the multitude of things that could go wrong (cancelled/missed flights, lost bags, illness, family emergency, etc), we additionally recommend that you enroll in a short term travel insurance/trip protection policy that will provide coverage in the event that some unforeseen issue impacts your trip.
RECOMMENDED PROVIDER
Global Rescue is a US-based provider that specializes in global medical evacuations and offers coverage for “extreme sports” activities such as backcountry skiing and ski mountaineering. Global Rescue is a partner of 40 Tribes and meets the requirements of the MRS. Global Rescue also offers a travel insurance supplement.
