COLORADO

ONE-OF-A-KIND BACKCOUNTRY LODGING AT 11,500’

A collaborative project with the A-Lodge

Sometimes what you’ve been searching for has been right in front of you all along. For more than 10 yeas now, we’ve been wandering the world in search of the next best destination for backcountry riding, and in that time we’ve discovered and become deeply acquainted with some very rad places. But ultimately there’s no place like home. The great State of Colorado—with its 53 Fourteeners (+14,000-foot peaks) in a dozen different mountain ranges, vast and rugged landscapes, sunshine, powder, and craft beer—is and always will be a hit list destination if you’re a shredder.

When you combine all that Colorado has to offer with the state’s growing population and popularity, hidden gems and truly “private” stashes are few and far between. So when we were approached with the opportunity to take over use of what was originally developed (but never utilized) as a backcountry lodge for hut-to-hut tours—9 miles (14.5km) beyond the winter road closure and at truly breathtaking 11,500 feet (3,500m), in one of the lesser-visited ranges of the state—we knew we had struck gold.

BEGINNING WINTER 2019/20 WE ARE BREATHING LIFE BACK INTO COLORADO’S LEGENDARY “THOREAU’S CABIN” AS ONE OF THE STATE’S PREMIER DESTINATIONS FOR BACKCOUNTRY RIDING.

Accessed by snowcat, the lodge will be the centerpiece of your stay and is where your crew will gather each morning and evening for delicious homecooked meals. You’ll spend your après ski sessions relaxing in front of the woodburning stove, staring out the windows at the lines shredded that day as the sun sets and a blanket of stars fills the night sky. The loft will serve as the living quarters for your caretaker and chef. Your living quarters, outfitted and cared for by our staff so as to match the exceptional quality of the catered experience, will be a 24’ Colorado-made yurt adjacent to the lodge. Glamping all the way.

The skiing/riding will be epic and it will be self-guided. Therefore everyone must meet our minimum requirements: Completion of a Level 1 (or equivalent) avalanche safety course as well as minimum 2 years of backcountry skiing or splitboarding experience. Tours begin from the lodge and there is skiable terrain for all weather conditions, avalanche conditions and skill level.

DETAILS

A collaborative project between 40 Tribes and Boulder, Colorado’s Adventure Lodge (A-Lodge), we plan to offer both winter and summer accommodation with 40 Tribes managing snowy season operations. The concept is to provide an exceptional staffed and catered lodging experience so that guests may simply focus on adventuring in the mountains that immediately surround.

While many of the details we know you are craving must remain undisclosed for a little while longer, we invite you to submit an inquiry below and you will be the first to be contacted when we are ready to share more info and accept bookings. You will also be able to provide us with feedback and help us develop the program that you would ideally like to see.

NAME
Our ultimate goal is to offer guided skiing and splitboarding packages based from the lodge. What option are you most interested in?
From Denver/Denver International Airport it is approximately a 5-hour drive to the location from which we will provide snowcat transport up to the lodge. Or a 1-hour flight from Denver International Airport followed by a 1-hour drive. Please let us know if you have a preference regarding the transportation scenario/inclusions:
Transporting guests to the lodge mid-winter is the greatest logistical hurdle we face. If we were able to partner with a heli operator capable of doing drops at the lodge, is this something you would be interested in over snowcat transport, even if it meant an increase in cost?
SUMMER INTEREST
Please let us know what other information (even the obvious such as location, pricing, etc) that you would need to know in deciding whether to book. Feel free to leave us with any other comments/questions here as well.
